For those of you who read my blog regularly, you’ll know that last week I saw RENT and it was an emotional experience for me. I felt like my was heart sad and my soul needed repairing. Musicals and plays do this to me; they make me feel something very personal, a connection to the story and my life. It’s not often I feel this with movies, but La La Land was an exception. I wanted to give it a standing ovation and would have done, if it wasn’t for the crippling fear of public humiliation.
I’m not going to give you a synopsis here. This isn’t a review. It’s a love letter. I’ll give you a sentence: A struggling actress meets a struggling jazz musician. That’s it. For more on the plot, you’ll have to go and see it. One question I will try and answer here is, who is La La Land for? Every movie is for someone. What about this one?
La La Land is for anyone who has been in love.
It’s for anyone who has ever felt that their dreams are out of reach.
It’s for musicians.
It’s for actresses.
La La Land is for those who wish their lives were musicals.
It’s for anyone who has had someone in their lives who helped them achieve their dreams.
And anyone whose had someone who hindered them.
La La Land is for dreamers.
It’s for creative minds.
And those that need expanding.
It’s for anyone whose heart needs filling.
Or someone whose heart is prone to breaking.
La La Land is for city dwellers.
And vintage lovers.
This move is for young people with fantastic dreams and those who are living every day like it’s a scene from a movie.
It’s for people who are looking for something to get them up in the mornings and those who leap out of bed, desperate for a new day.
It’s for those with experience.
And people who are waiting for life to come knocking.
It’s for people with hope and those with none.
It’s for people who know dreams don’t always come true.
La La Land is for those who imagine.
And who want something more.
Those who are satisfied and love what they have.
For those who have felt loss and anger.
For those who are lost.
And found.
This movie is truly for everyone.
